Para Para pods are the large, woody seed capsules of the Jacaranda copaia tree, a prominent species found in moist forests, particularly in the Amazon. These pods are typically flat, elongated, and dark brown when mature.

Product Details:

  • Source Location:  Brazil.

  • Size:  4.5 to 7 inches long and 2.5 to 3.75 inches wide.

  • 100% Natural: Organically sourced and naturally dried, these pods are free from artificial chemicals, making them a safe and sustainable choice for various applications.

  • Highly Versatile:

    • Aquarium:  When properly prepared, they can release a moderate amount of tannins, promote biofilm, and they provide unique hiding spots and contribute to a natural environment which stimulates natural behaviors for fish and shrimp.  Para Para pods are sturdy pods that like to float, so they will require a longer soak to become waterlogged.

    • Bioactive Terrariums:  Provides hiding spots and a food source for isopods, and springtails, enriches the substrate by releasing nutrients as they break down, and encourages natural and instinctive behaviors such as forging and exploring.  Para Para pods make a very unique and eye-catching feeding station for dart frogs.  A must-have for all dart frog vivariums.

    • Botanical Home Decor: Perfect as standalone decorative pieces, bowl fillers, or integrated into larger natural arrangements, terrariums, and potpourri.

    • Craft & Art Projects: Their unique shape and texture inspire endless creative possibilities in wreaths, mixed media art, botanical art, and more.

Preparation for Aquarium/Paludarium Use:

  1. Boil: Boil the pods for at least 1 to 2 hours to help them sink and leach initial tannins.

  2. Soak: Soak in clean water overnight or longer if needed, changing the water daily, until they are fully waterlogged and the desired amount of tannins has been leached.

  3. Ready to Use: Once they sink and you've achieved your desired water coloration, they are ready to be added to your setup.  These pods may need to be weighted down or simply let them float until they become waterlogged and sink.

Please Note: As a natural product, each para para pod is unique and will vary in size, shape, and coloration. These pods are intended for decorative, craft, and aquarium/vivarium use only and are not for consumption.
